Goals

Problem statement:

Village Kasristskali is located in the extreme south-east of the Shiraki region, which is a semi-arital zone with a semi-desert landscape. Drought can go on for several months in the summer and the air temperature goes up to 40 degrees, the lack of greenery help to increase the temperature of the houses and roads that make the living in the village almost unbearable. In there are only a dozen of trees in entire village, as due to the lack of firewood in the winter the trees were cut down in large quantities. The issue caused ecological catastrophe for the soil and boosted the desertification process of the soil. The problem of fuel burning has been solved by the City Hall of Akhmeta Municipality. In recent years the population has been trying to plant trees and care for the existing ones, hundreds of trees have been planted in the previous year, unfortunately they could not be fully "blossomed" as of the movement of domestic animals in the village.

Proposed Solution:

In 2017, Community Union "Alvani 2000" has launched the project "Development of the village Karsistiskali in the Georgian semarital zone with the support of community initiatives based on landscape approaches" within our village through the framework of the Small Grants Program of the Global Environment fund. The initiative group of rural development was created with the support of this project and developed a Community Development Plan. One of the activities of this plan was to take care of rural planting. The problem of planting is generally more urgent for our party, the greening actions are the only way to solve the acute ecological problem.
The only way to address this problem is to increase the green cover in the village. Community Union "Alvani 2000" will provide the appropriate specialist to select the varieties of trees and plants that require local climatic and mild conditions for improvement. The Community Union "Alvani 2000" will provide local residents with training on planting to plant selected trees. The local initiative group will find the selected species of trees in the plant nursery and plant them with the local population on the sides of the entrance to the village and in places where there is little or no greenery at all. In order to keep the trees safe from domestic animals, it will be necessary to protect them with the fence. These actions will involve the population into more environmental activities. This will also increase oxygen levels, reduce air pollution, protect soil from degradation and save the village from desertification.

Sustainability:

- The inhabitants of the village and the initiative group will take care of trees their irrigation during the drought season and cleaning. They will also implement agricultural actions recommended by the specialist. In which they will be using the materials requested, in addition these materials will be further used for environmental activities in village as well as for village development.
Budget: In particular, the amount of seedlings and its transportation can’t be written because the tree varieties and the selected materials will be specified during the implementation of the project and then the purchase of seedlings will be done.

Equal gender opportunity:

Village development initiative group includes both men and women. Local youth and high school students (boys and girls) will be involved in the project implementation process as well and the work envisaged by the project will unite people despite their gender.
