Goals

Problem statement:

Young girls from undeserved families and communities with low academic results face many challenges. Without intervention, they are at-risk for dropping out of school, early marriage, street work, sexual or physical abuse, or young pregnancy.

This project targets young at-risk girls in high schools, day centers and shelters. We plan to implement peer-led education programs for them. This will be done by creating a club called "Girls of the Future," which is partially financed by the US Embassy who trained 25 girls as peer educators. We believe these clubs will have a large impact in their communities.

Proposed Solution:

Sustainability:

Even my project is not long, I think that the results we will get are very sustainable and long-term, because through this project we are empowering future moms, teachers, successful businesswomen, or capable and confident housewives.

With this project, we are directly training 20 young ladies as peer mentors and indirectly training hundreds of them, because our beneficiaries have sisters, mothers, classmates, relatives and neighbors to whom they will share their education. At least some of them will be future mothers who can pass on the benefits to their children.

Equal gender opportunity:

This project targets women in hopes of giving them equal opportunities.

ketevan.chitashvili@gmail.com My project "Girl of Future" is finished. I would like to share my experience and little information on project and on its results. As I planned I conducted a two day training in Samtskhe-Javakheti on October 28-29, 2017. 25 local girls participated in the training, who were actively involved in different group working and interactive activities. Also the participants were provided with seminars on different topics, as for:communication, self-development, early marriage, social advocacy, career development, creating and managing blogs, photo/video story telling and civil activism. After the training the participants initiated to share their knowledge and new information with their peers in their community. Peer Education meeting took place in Vale in Akhaltsikhe Municipality, where 10 young local girls participated an got new information from their peers. The project was an inspiration for our participants to become leaders of their communities in strengthening their peers.

ketevan.chitashvili@gmail.com Our project participants organized a Peer Education meeting with their peers in Vale (a village in Akhaltsikhe Municipality). They used the knowledge and experience that they got during the training we provided and shared the information with local girls. Our Peer Educators talked about early marriage, communication and career planing. They had different group working activities and interactive exercises for the participants, so they would be more involved in the process. The meeting went well.

ketevan.chitashvili@gmail.com On October 28-29 we implemented our project in Akhaltsikhe. 25 girls from the region (14-18 years old) were selected through an open call. During the two day training our participants were able to attend sessions on different topics, as for: communication, self-development, early marriage, social advocacy, career development, creating and managing blogs, photo/video story telling and civil activism. Girls were involved in different group working and interactive activities. Our guest speakers were a representative from Ombudsmen's office in Samtskhe-Javakheti, also we hosted a local journalist and she talked about social advocacy. Girls enjoyed meeting our guest speakers and trainers, sharing their thoughts and experiences and spending time in a friendly atmosphere, After the training girls are given two weeks time period to use the knowledge and skills that they developed through the training and they are going to prepare photo/video stories under a topic: "Me as a Girl". Their works will be published on social media.

ketevan.chitashvili@gmail.com Currently volunteers are preparing training modules on the topics we are going to bring to regions. Me and two other volunteers, who are professional trainers and have a huge experience of working with youth, are mostly preparing all the necessary materials, content and other technical details for the trainings. For the next step we are going to recruit participants in Borjomi, and plan the trainings in Ocotber.

ketevan.chitashvili@gmail.com My project, "Girls of Future" will be implemented from September, 2017. In July, I had a meeting with two other volunteers, who will be moderators of the project. We set the plans, about recruitment, locations of the project and all necessary steps to take on the preparation stage at the beginning of September. As far my project starts in September, we will be stopped during August and will start working on the project from the beginning of September, with a new energy. The picture is taken during the meeting with volunteers.
