Goals

Problem statement:

Gumbati is a village in Tsalka municipality, where Adjarian eco-migrants live. 200 families live in the village with little children. The majority of the population is engaged in agriculture (they grow potatoes and take care of cattle). The square which is in Tsalka, is 30 kilometers away from the village of Gumbati. The road to it is not asphalted and is hard to cover. Those parents who can afford it, take their children to the district square on birthdays to entertain. There is no place in the village where the children could play, so the only entertainment for the children in the village are stones and sticks. The change I want to achieve:
- in the village, where adults spend days and nights working, children live too, and they have the full right to entertainment and development like other children. They spend the whole day with adults, whereas playing and toys are an important pre-condition for a child’s proper development! My goal is to make a place for entertainment of the Gumbati children not only on birthdays (and that also in exceptional cases), but also on ordinary days, where they will go for a walk with their parents or grandmas and grandpas, spend their energy, play, laugh a lot and when they grow up, they will say proudly that they grew up in a really great village, which had a small square too. (In many cases children born in such places see a square for the first time when they are students). Besides:
- the children will have a place where they will stay and play, when their parents are out in the field.
- the existence of the square in the village will contribute to physical development of the children and youngsters and to getting them interested in active lifestyle.
-it will make the population see that it is not enough to wait for the decisions of the state bodies to do something and often we can also do something for our village.

Proposed Solution:

We agreed with the village governor that he will allocate a place near the village school, where we’ll be able to make a square. A friend who has already voluntarily made playgrounds in other villages, has promised to help us too to implement this activity. And the owner of the village shop has promised that if we really make a square in Gumbati, he will supply us with cold drinks during the construction process, free of charge). I will gather the youth from Gumbati, and they will assist me in better arranging the playground materials.
The parents, children, youth will get together and plan how to arrange the square in the best way. The coordinators of the project “Volunteer of Georgia” in Tsalka will join us: Melano Kakhadze and Giorgi Iakobadze.
We will make a playground for children in Gumbati, which will be used not only by children from Gumbati, but also by the children from the neighboring village. From the neighboring Armenian-speaking village (Ashkhali) inhabitants often come to our village shop, accompanied by little children, who will be very happy if they see a playground.
It will be an example for the future generation that they can also make a beneficial change in their place of living.
We will be ready, already experienced, to help other villages to implement similar ideas.
This will be a place where not only children but also we, young people, will gather, share ideas with each other, and have the example in front of us, that a wish is most important, and opportunities will always be found.

Sustainability:

We will make a square next to the school building. The school director Ramaz Dzirkvadze and deputy governor of the village Eter Khimshiashvili will be responsible for it. The school director told us, that he will take care of the square just like the school building. The square will play a big role in making everyday life of Gumbati people more diverse. This will be a kind of a place for gathering.
All the residents of the village will look after the square, because everyone will have made a contribution into arranging it.
The population will develop more and get convinced that we can do many things together, this will be a prerequisite for many new positive changes.
