Goals

Problem statement:

I am a member of the initiative group Mariam Bushelashvili, CSRDG was established in S/J village in 2013, we are 8 women in the group and we want younger students to become our active members. We have the following idea: in our village there is a library where we have old books and we do not have anyone to read them.

Often people come, especially children and want to take a book and read but as we do not get new books from new writers they don’t read anything. Unfortunately, books we have are all purchased at the time of the Soviet Union.

The librarian is a member of our initiative group and is ready to give us space for the events in the library and help us create space for youth and schoolchildren who will come to the library if they want to read the books, watch innovative videos on the computer and watch movies on a big screen (using the projector) take and read books at home and arrange events various events themselves. I want youth to read books again, because it is important for younger generation to read more as they tend to not read at all these days. Also I would like to teach them about waste management, As we do not have a decorated yard near library we want to decorate it with using used car tires, make various decorations, paint the tires and plant some flowers in them. We also want to show movies, films and cartoons in this center for kids and youth with a projector on the big screen.

Proposed Solution:

School teacher will instruct children to read a variety of literature, the books in the library will be purchased through this project, and will be provide to children who will come to the library and receive them, afterwards we will offer them to make a gathering and discuss the book just read and review it. Discuss which of the selected books were more interesting and what they liked in it, what genre they prefer and etc.. We have a projector and laptop enables us to show movies on a big screen, our wish is to create a reader society starting from age 10, these are the children who are not loaded with much educational workload and have more time to read. In addition these children will help us to decorate the garden near the library paint the tires and plant the flowers. We have one more offer for these children, we have 2 additional rooms attached to the library where we had a volunteer teaching English, we also had various activities there. The best reader of the group will be appointed as a team leader, the library will de filled with tables and beany bags for the students to feel that the space is for having funs as well as for learning and acquiring knowledge. Chairs and tables and beany bags will be children’s property and thy will always have the right to come and use it, care of the inventory will be the responsibility for the team leader, as for project I am planning to implement it for 4-month and making 5 events: 1 reading books and discussions. Discovering the best reader (1 or 2), choosing the leader among the best readers.
2. Watching movies / cartoons (for children and kindergarten children) periodically (nothing in the village is done from this perspective).
3. Paint the car tires and plant flowers. Join the Active Children Initiative Group

Sustainability:

My project will be sustainable because the books will remain forever in the village library and the will contribute to development and growth of generations.

As for the reading of our identified leaders will continue throughout the following months to get the children they will sit together and read books, watch movies / cartoons or search for information on the Internet, local library will be a pleasant environment for setting up a place where they will feel like at home, they will share the experience and increase the number of readers in the community. Also, the above-mentioned groups will take care of the yard where they will be decorating tires, they will water the plants, take care of flowers, and they will not damage them as they will have planted them with their own hands.

- To implements this idea I will need:
- Paint
- Books
- 6 beany bags
- 1 table (low table to reach them from beany bags)
- Loudspeaker sound amplifier for films / cartoons to run.
- Simple assembled 4-piece wooden frames where we can put new books in the room
