We would like to take care of the education and literacy of the young generation. For that purpose, it is necessary to help the school enrich children’s library.
The budget of public schools is rather limited, so they cannot afford to enrich the book stock. There is fiction for early readers and young adults, but none for elementary students. Currently, most elementary students use electronic books, but we think at this age, the child’s attitude towards books is starting to develop. It’s at this age when the pupil needs to get introduced to the world’s colorfully illustrated, audible and interesting literature for children.
Physical books matching the child’s age and personality should be available. This project that we choose literature for the children’s corner in the library correctly, with taste and literary value.
We also need a new shelf for the books. We will alphabetize the books, and we want children to be able to find the books selected just for them, placed separately, without having to search and ask too many questions. This will make the reading process much more comfortable and pleasant for them.
In the third school of Tserovani, internally displaced pupils and teachers from the Samachablo and Akhalgori region study and work. The library from the occupied regions to Tserovani could not be transferred. The school has a children’s library, and the school has its own, but due to growing demand, it is not enough.
The stock of the school library is filled with donations. Last academic year, up to 940 children will be accepted to the school. The number of pupils especially increased at the elementary stage. 65 children finished the school in 2016, and in the new school year 150 pupils will be accepted in the first grade. This again creates a problem of supply.
One of the main goals of school education is literary and to develop a joy for reading. Family libraries often play a big role in this, but due to the conflict, these students’ families could not take their family libraries with them. The problem is crucial for pupils, who want quality general education.
Our children’s corner is targeted at children aged 8 to 12. At this age, a child can independently read highly literary books with complex vocabularies and interesting plots. They are able to read books for young adults, but the content is not always suitable for their psychology.
Our project will provide the appropriate books for our target age. We hope that these books will make literature interesting to our students. The impact will be raised literacy and a lifelong love of reading.
Equal gender opportunity:
We will choose books with both male and female heroes and open our library to every children interested.
