Goals
Problem statement:
In the village of Gurgeniani in Lagodekhi municipality, several self-taught tracers live – a group of youngsters who years ago started training and doing acrobatic feats on their own. These acrobatic feats and movements are called parkour. A tracer is the person who does this sport as a kind of art.
Parkour is the art of rationally overcoming obstacles and moving in the city. Here, by means of one’s body, one overcomes physical obstacles: walls, fences, houses, etc. Also one deals with obstacles as fast and effectively as possible (which means that one doesn’t do actions which waste energy and time). I am one of these boys and I was the initiator of parkour development years ago. Together with friends I made the equipment necessary for physical exercise: tourniquet, sawdust floor and artificial barriers, which we used for learning to jump in the air and turn.
We used to hold events at village fairs in different villages and people used to learn about us gradually. We also gained followers which caused us to think of creating better conditions for learning.
Proposed Solution:
After the informational meeting held by the organization “Orbeliani – Georgia,” we decided to make better special barriers and soft flooring with the project budget, which, in its turn, will enable us to improve our acrobatic feats and hold classes to teach interested youngsters.
The main goal is to popularize a healthy lifestyle and involve as many young people as possible in sports and active lifestyles. We will easily achieve all this by means of parkour, because apart from physical training, parkour also has a performance aspect which will contribute to popularizing this activity.
With the project budget, we will purchase the material: wood, chipboard bars, screws, sponges, and leather. One handicraftsman living the village Gurgeniani – Gia Ketiladze – will assemble barriers for us completely voluntarily on the basis of the drawings worked out with us.
After making the constructions, we will start working on the teaching program. Afterwards we will create a group to teach. We plan to hold classes in the main gym of Lagodekhi, and we have already talked with the director of the center of youth affairs and sports development, Mr. Ivane Khachidze, and received consent . We will hold lessons twice a week. At the same time we will work on the program of holding events and we will hold presentations/shows in the nearby villages.
Sustainability:
We will hold events within the scope of the project for three months. The classes will continue until we manage to prepare at least one group to take part in performances. In case of interest, if we manage to make a new group, we will teach basic movements to the new flow.
Until the number of tracers is sufficient for a diverse show with the prospect of participating in different events, we will move the constructions on our own. They will stay with us, the Parkour Boys.
Equal gender opportunity:
It's true that our organisation is involves young men just now. However, if any girls are interested in learning parkour, we will happily include them. We hope that as our event becomes more popular, more girls will be interested in participating.
