Goals

Problem statement:

Nowadays Georgia faces huge environmental problem, specifically by throwing a trash in the streets. This is a huge problem in the summer season in Kobuleti. Despite the effort of some NGOs, people have changed.

Besides this issue, Kobuleti Municipality faces gender based problems as well. Mostly people from different villages are representing local community in Kobuleti, who have no opportunity to learn deeply about gender equality and they mostly believe and follow existing stereotypes.

These are two main problems which I have identified during my working experience in Kobuleti region and I strongly believe a small project like interactive trash container can inspire people to make a bigger change in their community.

Proposed Solution:

To solve the existing problem I was trying to come up with a creative idea, which could try to solve somehow both problems together. I think interactive trash container is a solution I for the change I seek.

The idea is brilliantly simple: it is made up of two large clear containers with gender stereotypes hanging above each one. By placing trash in one of these containers, people are casting votes for the corresponding message. Since this idea requires interaction from people I strongly believe that it will raise their motivation to throw the trash in containers and not in the streets.

Besides that interactive trash container is a great way to raise their awareness about existing stereotypes and through the signs clearly see the reality they live in. The signs will change every week so people will have more chance to vote for new ideas and break new stereotypes.

During this project, we create this container in spaces which have the most visitors and the most trash. As the trash container is bigger than norma, it will take attention from passersby and inspire them to “vote” via throwing trash.

Sustainability:

Since the interactive trash container is highly innovative for Georgia people will be interested in the project and participating in the voting system. Besides that the project will be promoted on local TVs and we have support from the municipality. Therefore, I am sure this project will raise awareness about gender equality through voting signs and decrease the environmental issues, more specifically throwing the trash in the streets.

We are addressing gender equality by having people 'vote' on issues related to gender.
