Goals

Problem statement:

An area around the village center, approximately 500 sq.m. which borders the road leading to school, had been turned into a landfill. Ditches, elderberry and blackberry bushes, and garbage has made a nest for reptiles in the middle of the village.

We want to clean this place and make it into a rose alley, where it would be possible to relax, walk, make a place for children and gather the village population to discuss important issues. The polluted and unused area will become nice and litter won’t be thrown there either. There is also a football and volleyball stadium nearby, but there is not a single tree to rest and shelter from the heat. With 250 households, the village has no other place to rest and get together.

We had this place flattened with a tractor, took out litter and with the raised money for 30 meters of the 70 meter length. The community - women, men and also young people were involved in this process. Everyone likes what has been done but we want to make an alley throughout the whole length.

Proposed Solution:

With funding, we will complete the long (70 meters) alley full of roses. We will plant the greenery, bushes, make stone paths and put out chairs and rubbish bins.

There is an irrigation channel down the alley, and on that side we will plant a row of willows. Since the place is already prepared and part of the alley is also made, we need the material: iron, wire, cement, paint, etc. The cost of the materials is 1881 GEL.

The community members will together to implement this goal: will cut the iron, paint, cement the supporting pillars, weld and connect the carcass. Teenager boys and girls will also work together with the adults.

Sustainability:

The alley will always be a recreational place for the village population. It will always function and will always be in the possession of the community. Everyone will take care of what they have made with their own hands, and it will become their favorite recreational place.

More importantly, litter will not be thrown anymore and instead of a dirty the village center, there will be beautified with a rose alley. Improvement of this place will be beneficial not only for the community but also for the visitors. We hope that after seeing our alley, other villages will also do like us and the villages of our gorge will become much greener and more beautiful.

Equal gender opportunity:

On the initial stage of making the alley, the village population got involved with great enthusiasm, regardless of age and gender. In case of getting the funding, more people will take part in expanding this alley. It is also very important that people will feel how useful it is to do something in order to not only get personal and communal benefit.
