Tetritskaro Municipality (approximately 21 000 inhabitants according to 2014 census) is quite diverse with social and ethnic composition. There are different social groups, such as ethnic minorities (Armenians and Azeris), IDPs (since 2008) and eco migrants (from Adjara and Svaneti) in our municipality. Young people, living in the villages of Tetritskaro Municipality lack the space, where they can gather together and engage with different non-formal education activities. They have access only to formal education and that’s why they are not actively involved in their communities and did not find diversity in their lifestyle.
It is worthy to highlight, that these social groups (ethnic minorities, IDPs and eco migrants) live densely in the villages and they did not have much contacts with other groups. This is another barrier to make them feel the valuable members of their community and country as well.
Lack of readiness and civic engagement culture is something which makes them attached to their homes and did not find necessary to be part of some positive changes in their society.
In order to support young people in the villages of Tetritskaro Municipality to be more involved in making positive changes in their community, the project team is willing to use the method of film screening as a tool of civic engagement. This method aims to improve analytical, presentation, argumentation and critical thinking skills of youngsters and to make them work in the small groups for analyzing the problems and activating other community members to solve them then.
The project is going to do film screenings in 7 villages (Korsalari, Samshvilde, Samghereti, Tsintskaro, Koda IDP Settlement, Iraga, Asureti) about civic activism/volunteerism and human rights.
Film screening and discussions will be held in each villages two times. As a result of the above mentioned activity, youth will get the opportunity to use this projector for the film screening activities organized by them.
This project is one of the ice breakers for the youngsters to analyse their role in the community and at the same time to empower their activeness in solving small-scale problems in their villages.
The sustainability of the project is stipulated by several factors: firstly, these film screenings have multiplication effect, participants of the project are going to plan other film screenings for their friends and do discussions; Secondly, the projector, we are going to buy in this project is one of the products , which will be used during the activities planned on the base of newly founded organization "Tetritskaro Youth Center".
Equal gender opportunity:
Project tries to ensure gender balance in selected participants of film screenings.
