Goals
Problem statement:
Sabirkendi is a region inhabited with ethnic Azeri, where the problems is the rejection of students with special needs in the school and the community. They are not considered as members of the society and are marginalized from it.
People with special needs do not consider themselves as full-fledged members of the community. The problem is the lack of information about the various syndromes and a negative attitude from the society. Our goal is to raise the awareness of students and the villagers and to build their tolerance regarding this issue.
Within the project ethnic Azeri children, who are already friends with students from high mountain region, in particular from Pasanauri school, will bond and become friends with children with Down syndrome beneficiaries, namely: children from "Parents Bridge".
The children from Pasanauri will live in the village Sabirkendi for 3 days, then we will visit the "Parents Bridge" and their beneficiaries who will participate in various cultural activities with Azeri and Georgian kids.
Proposed Solution:
Activity 1 – fisrt day at eight o'clock the mini-bus will travel from village Sabirkendi to Pasanauri, which will take 10 students and one teacher, (a total of 11 people) and will spend the first day in Sabirkendi with Azeri families. They will live there for 3 days, will see the process of preparing Azerbaijani food, Georgian children will bond with Azerbaijani kids.
Activity 2—second day they will attended Georgian language classes, at three o’ clock, we'll visit Algeti youth center: "the first steps", where they will show a film about children with down syndrome: "My name is Sam," after the movie there will be a discussion, participants will express their opinions and assumptions.
Activity 3 – 10 students from the Village Sabirkendi, 2 teachers and 1 parent, Georgian students and teachers (a total of 24 people) together will travel to Tbilisi and at twelve o’ clock, with the cake, gifts and sweet drinks we will meet the beneficiaries of “Parents Bridge”. There are 50 beneficiaries, their accompaniment there will be a band play, then our children will hold a concert. After the students from Pasanauri come back home.
Activity 4 – At the end, there will be a project sum up. There will be a photo exhibition held at the Algeti Youth Center, participants will write what they have learned, what they did and what impressions they had from the project, this will be covered by the local radio and local TV stations, children will visit the radio station and will talk about their impressions, the news will be published in the newspaper "The New Enlightenment" as well.
Sustainability:
Our Youth Centre will invite beneficiaries and jointly hold an evening of poetry the local Azeri people with special needs will be involved who are usually locked up at home. In addition, on day of children protection we will do some joint activities.
The result of the project will be: integration of compatriots, which will no longer be isolated, they will experience Georgian environment and they will have impressions about it, they will learn how to support children and the local community will have information about Down Syndrome beneficiaries, they will know how to protect and take care of them, they will develop their consciousness, will become an example for other people, will become active citizens, will integrate into society, which will prevent ethnic alienation.
We will have a collaborative relationship with parents and show them how important it is to involve girls and students in general in a good work.
1. The students will identify their own strengths and in case of weaknesses they will realize the need of a further growth.
2. Students will face the new challenges.
3.Learn planning and implementation.
4. learn teamwork.
5. Learn to commit and be bold.
6. Students will participate in initiatives starting from school.
7. develop new skills.
The results achieved will be maintained through various activities: after the project the friendship between children will continue, where they will be introduced to a variety of topics, teamwork, writing projects and they will independently implement projects in the future.
There will be a sum up meeting and an exhibition at the Algeti youth center: "the first steps" about what they did and learned that was new, what they could do, what not and what they would change in the future. Why is this friendship important? Friendship of Georgian and Azerbaijani students by doing good work would be beneficial and will bring positive results.
Equal gender opportunity:
Local Azeri students, 10 girls and 8 boys, as well as Georgian boys and girls will be involved in the project. The target group will include teachers as well as school children, local successful students, village residents, parents, beneficiaries (total 80 people).
