Rural social life struggles from monotony and boredom. The public space is the “Birzha” (the place for spending time together idly), which greatly increases the distance among the locals. Worse, the presence of women is unethical, which isolates women and divides the population by gender.
While we cannot access urban spaces theaters or cafes we can form a library. In the village Navazi, after a public vote, the youth to transformed the cultural house into a library named after Otar Chiladze. It is now open to locals and also functions as a culture house and an open cafe.
The Library Union gave new library old books and shelves, produced in Kursk factory is 1957. While this was okay to start, we now wish to modernize our space and our collection in order to make it more popular with the village.
We want to restore the library in Navazi for this village and the nearby villages with new books and shelves. We want to host events at the space and decrease boredom.
The project is long-term and its development will take place in stages. First, the new library will be opened. Then, we will open a cafe. Finally, we will open a concert space for meetings, discussions, and entertainment.
We plan to continue developing this space for many years to come.
Equal gender opportunity:
In all stages of the project women as well as men will be equally involved. The space will be totally adapted and will set a good example for other villages as well.
