The library in Giorgeti has been functioning since the second half of 20th century. Village inhabitants say that its role in literary development of the society was huge.
Unfortunately, for almost 20 years, that the village library has not been functioning well. The furniture and materials are too old, and the book supply has never been renewed. Most of the literature is in Russian, and the shelves are so old that it is dangerous to walk between them. The floor is old as well.
The village inhabitants don’t even know about the existence of the library and it is not popular because of its state of disrepair.
To solve this problem, the youth of the village and the library director have volunteered to rehabilitate the library.
They will create the creative and original interface, renew the books and remake this room to be a space where we can host different writers and poets, organize poetry evenings and other events, to create a reading club and make different presentations. This process will awake the enthusiasm and civil activity in youth and older society.
To buy the materials for the cosmetic repair, we will collect the books from different publishers and charity. We will invite Giorgi Kekelidze, director of the Georgian national library on the opening day at our presentation. I know him and we have discussed it. He will give us 300 books to start our library.
Project stability will be caused by those activities which are planned for the public space of the library. The plans are as follows:
1.Purchase the needed supplies for the repair.
2. Repair and arrange the room.
3. Purchase books with funds and solicit donations of books.
4.Reopen the library with the National Parliamentary Library's Giorgi Kekelidze.
5. Launch events: poetry nights and a reading club.
6. Establish a weekly cinema club.
7. Hold weekly open houses inviting local youth groups and adult club.s
8. Recruit and train volunteers for maintaining the facilities.
9. Host civil and religious festivals. Engage school groups for participation.
10. Host exhibitions with local artists.
Equal gender opportunity:
We hope that this project will reawaken the civil spirit of our entire community, helping men and women.
