As it is known, schools which provide only general education cannot meet the needs of children with special needs, especially in rural regions. The education for the children with disabilities and special needs is provided by specialized centers. In many countries, these specialized centers are the main resource for supporting inclusive education. They are the leaders in terms of knowledge and experience for special education.
Unfortunately, the parents of the children with disabilities living in Senaki municipality are disturbed by the fact that there are no such center or resources available.
There are 50 children with disabilities and special needs, and 70 socially vulnerable and IDPs in the village of Old Senaki (Dzveli Senaki). The situation is the same in nearby villages as well. Mostly village population live in economic poverty, so the children have no luxury of accessing resources in the cities.
The local government allocated a working room for a special education center, where, in case of acquiring the requested equipment, it will be possible to carry out the project so that over 100 youngsters can receive education, socialization, motivation, and the resources they need to improve themselves.
The project aims at integrating children with disabilities and children with special educational needs with their peers by carrying out special activities in the Senaki municipality by providing them with appropriate educational resources.
In particular, we will create a resource room for individual and group classes for children with disabilities and special educational needs. It will focus on learning to work independently, creating projects and crafts, and raising ecological awareness.
The center will also provide psychological observation and consultations for the parents. Peers will teach their friends with special needs how to make hand-made items, they will hold exhibitions and other events together, which will have a positive impact on everyone. Volunteers will be in charge of introducing the children to ecology as well as Georgian history, traditions, cultures of other countries and the regions of Georgia by means of video compilations and field classes.
The center will be able to serve the community for a long time and will be demonstrated by the improved moral and abilities of the students and the regular exhibition of their works.
