Goals

Problem statement:

Because of technology, usage of books is falling. The aim of this project is remind people the value of physical books.

Reading physical books is a huge issue in Adjara region, especially during summer, when everyone is busy relaxing in Batumi Boulevard or Beach. I am originally from Batumi, and from my personal experience, in summer hardly anyone reads books in Batumi. A book is like a dream you hold in your hands; I want more people to remember that pleasure.

I have organized many different small projects to donate and share books to youth who need them, but lack resources. The result was always that everyone involved were more motivated to share the love of books.

In addition, reading books is the best way to have educated youth. Therefore I hope this project will be one step toward to a successful future generation.

Proposed Solution:

We will make ten book houses, which will look like a bird house but will have shelves to keep books inside. Each house costs 45 dollars, but they will be strong enough to handle rain and snow. On the outside, the house will say, “books mean love, let’s share with each other!”

These houses will be near the seaside, so after swimming, people can easily access books, read and share their emotions to each other. People will also have opportunity to share their old books with some inspirational notes on it.

For 50 dollars we want to buy books for the shelves. Books can be not only Georgian, but also Russian, Turkish and English, so most of the tourists can have opportunity to read as well. We realize that number of books bought won’t be enough for all the houses, so therefore we plan to organize some charity events, like dance show, poetry nights where tickets will equal to one book, so this will be a book donations by locals.

To avoid the risk of empty shelves, we will negotiate to the police officers who keep an eye on Boulevard territory, and they will tell people who take books temporarily to bring them back. We will also hang a note on each book explaining the system.

Sustainability:

After successfully organizing this project and promoting it on TV and in newspapers, this project will have thousands of indirect beneficiaries who will remember the importance of books.

This love will hopefully spread by everyone who sees the book houses in Batumi and asks about them and then hopefully reads a book.

Since the book house will be protected from snow and rain we can leave it during all seasons.
