Nakhiduri Public School in Bolnisi does not have proper equipment and infrastructure to conduct sports lessons properly. Healthy lifestyle and sports activities are not quite popular. Due to stereotypical thinking and traditions, girls are not allowed to participate in the sports activities.
Nakhiduri has quite a large youth community. However they do not have conditions to spend their time in a quality manner. While living in a village is hard and requires hardwork when they are engaged in farming, there is no entertainment opportunities. The youth need other means to relax and focus on sports, so that they achieve a more balanced physical and psychological development.
Our school has applied to the local government, the Ministry of Education's Infrastructure Department, but the Department refused to help us build sports facilities, saying they have no funding. The school is a part of the village which means that the entire village community has no such infrastructure. The school is a kind of the centre in the village which hosts lots of events, activities and competitions. Having a stadium will further increase the importance of the place and its benefits.
As a school director at Nakhiduri, I want to build some basic infrastructure of the stadium so that the youth are more engaged in the sports activities. We need three balls (football, bolleyball, basketball), three nets, stadium pillars and the related equipment. The school students and the community will be mobilized to build the stadium and install it. The students of the school as well as others in the community will benefit. We will conduct various competitions and involve different ethnic groups (Georgians and Azeris), which will contribute to their integration.
The project is sustainable, because the stadium will be open for any person. It means, that the stadium will be used many times as by the school as by the community.
Expected Results: Sporting Life will become more popular among young people, and healthy lifestyle will be promoted.
The school will allow both boys and girls to engage in sports activities, thereby contributing to gender equality principles.
