Goals

Problem statement:

There are over 500 bicycle users in Telavi and it is equally popular among young girls and boys. Adults also cycle, but to a lesser extent.

The problem in Telavi is that in the city, there isn’t a place to park bicycles. This is the reason why so many people can’t use their bicycles for everyday transportation. We only use them whenever we want to visit our friends so that we can safely leave the bikes in their yards, but not when we want to go in public.

The lack of the essential bicycle infrastructure reduces the popularity of this transport among the population. The city municipality has arranged special bicycle lanes but with no racks in place in the city area, there is no way to use the bicycle for transportation in the city centre or elsewhere. Obviously it is not secure to leave the bicycle unattended for hours.

Proposed Solution:

We are Telavi Youth Initiative group called “We & Time,” a group of four guys and one girl (so far) and we want to solve this problem by arranging the first bicycle parking rack in front of the city park Nadikvari.

Nadikvari is located in the centre, and it is very convenient for the town. Also, it is the most popular gathering place in the evening. The entrance area of the park has enough space to construct the rack, and Telavi Municipality agreed to provide permission.

There is a chance that other public or private institutions will be interested in this issue. After the rack is constructed, we will produce a special video giving instructions how to use the rack and the locks and promote the general use of bicycles. Two members of our team are journalists and another runs a private video studio. We will post the video on the Facebook page of Telavi which has over 8200 users and also on our personal pages. With this videos the population will learn how to use the bicycle stand.

Group members will also participate in all the technical issues and the performance of the process to prepare the photo-material. Representatives of the local City Hall, Media and Civil Sector will be invited to the opening.

Sustainability:

The bicycle stand will be a metal shelters, which will increase its working life. Any person, who uses the bicycle in this part of the city can use this bicycle parking too.

Bicycle parking will be free and will increase its popularity. We are confident that this will be a very demanded product in the reality of the city. If many people use this transport it promotes healthy lifestyle in the city and reduces pollution.
