Goals

Problem statement:

Tbilisi is modern busy city, and biking helps our city grow healthier, stronger, and more connected.

Not everyone experiences the benefits of bicycling; barriers like cost, safety, and bike storage can prevent people from accessing or using bicycles. We’re working to make biking accessible to more people. We work with residents to develop unique, neighborhood-based programming, bike rides, and events that help build healthier communities here in Tbilisi.

Proposed Solution:

In Georgia, there aren't many bikes and they are even less used by women. We recycle used bicycles from Germany and Switzerland to refit them in Tbilisi. We will set up a do-it-yourself bicycle workshop, the first workshop for bicycle maintenance in and around Tbilisi.

Those who want to experience bicycling can volunteer to learn more with professional cyclists and build bicycles from recycled parts. Renewed bicycles will be accessible for participants at any time to use for transportation in Tbilisi.

As this project needs space to be Implemented, I will make space in my flat and my yard for the workshop which will be accessible at any time for local cyclists who want to repair their own bicycles.
The space is in the center of Tbilisi so it will be easy to find.

Sustainability:

Our vision is to help build a vibrant community in which people of all backgrounds can use bicycles to stay healthy and connected. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to choose active and healthy transportation regardless of income, education, or background – and this is the motivation behind everything that we do.

Group members create a sustainable environment and community. We hope soon members of the local community will donate bikes they don’t need. In this way, the bicycle will be a tool for empowerment.

We will spread word about this program in our social network page and group "Tbilisi Bicycle Group," which has 1904 members and more than 5000 likes. We also invite local media to share information for citizens.

Equal gender opportunity:

Right now, more men than women cycle in Tbilisi. We will specifically reach out to women and give them confidence to bike around in public.
