Goals
Problem statement:
In the 1990s, the village of Fshaveli in Telavi had 9 grades, and now there are four which function. Without classes, families are moving away to the city.
The existing school has very low hygienic conditions, including no toilets nearby. On their way to the toilet, students often face reptiles and are forced to use the bushes instead.
There is a space in the school building remaining from soviet times. The space had separate bathrooms for girls and boys, none of which is currently operational. The walls are crumbling, the floor is damaged, toilet seats are broken, the water pipe is rusted and there are no doors at all. Clearly, the toilet needs repair.
Proposed Solution:
For the toilet rehabilitation the following activities will be undertaken:
Install a water pump and pipes; install toilets; install an air vent.
Plaster the walls, lay floor tiles, install doors and sinks.
The work will be carried out by volunteer parents and teachers. The target group is primarily school children (there are currently 23 children) and teachers (7 teachers). In addition to direct beneficiaries a successful execution of the project would indirectly benefit parents and family members.
Sustainability:
After the successful execution of the project, the children and the teachers will be using the bathroom for at least 25 years. Maintenance will be undertaken by school teachers and the community worker.
Equal gender opportunity:
Renovation of two isolated restrooms for boys and girls will be done.
