Goals
Problem statement:
Kvareli municipality is distinguished by plentitude of villages inhabited by ethnic minorities: villages - Chantliskure, Saruso and Tivi are populated by Avars/Khundzs, in the village of Zinobian Udis live, and Tsitskanaantseri is populated by Ossetians.
The ethnic groups listed above and Georgian people shared close friendly relations historically. With time due to different factors this relations gradually weakened. The community members are alienated towards each other. This situation significantly damages the youth. Communication problem among communities is considered to be the most important problem. It must be noted that unlike the older generation, young representatives of ethnic group recently often get involved in various cultural and educational activities with Georgian youth. The examples are: “Autumn festival” - where all the above mentioned villages presented handmade items. Also a long-term joint lecture course with qualified trainers, etc.
Although there is an initiative and precedents of joint activities, this is not enough to establish relations among the communities. More and varied cultural-educational projects need to be carried out, which will strengthen relations between the youth.
Proposed Solution:
On the outskirts of the village Akhalsopeli a field like camp will be held, which will host the youth living in the six villages of Kvareli municipality. Successful pupils from Akhalsopeli will be selected, whereas from ethnically non-Georgian villages - the teachers’ recommendations and the children’s wishes will be considered. The camp will host five flows. The duration of each flow will be 4 days. In total up to 150 young people will get involved in the project.
“Ethno-camp” program mainly consists of cultural-educational, environmental and entertaining-cognitive activities that ensure active recreation of the youth, their opportunity to get informal education, raise their intellectual potential, promoting healthy lifestyle and facilitate the integration of ethnic minorities of Kvareli. The immediate beneficiaries of the project will be the pupils and youth of the six schools participating in the project and the whole municipality in general.
Sustainability:
In case of obtaining the needed resources on the historical territory in the vicinity of Akhalsopeli (“Kopale”) from July 25 to August 21 (5 flows in total - 30 children in each flow) a field camp will be arranged. Children will be divided in groups, they will be managed by leaders (girls and boys. Leaders will be selected “the Center of Youth and Pupils of Akhalsopeli” according to their qualifications.
All kinds of the organizational matters of the camp will be managed by the representatives of “the Center of Youth and Pupils of Akhalsopeli” (5 organizers). The youth will be divided in teams and distributed in tents.
The schedule of activities for 4 days:
Day I: Introduction-encamping; breakfast; division in teams (presentation and introduction of the leaders); introduction to the camp rules and duties; lunch; information and training (on tolerance, ecology, rights, etc); meeting of the team and evaluation of the day; dinner; the leaders’ surprise and introduction to the performances.
Day II: breakfast; going up to the waterfall; recreation - picnic; going down from the waterfall; free time; gathering of the teams; training (on ecological problems); dinner; summing up of the day.
Day III: breakfast; gathering of the teams; sports activities; recreation; lunch; game (ships); dinner; concert (presentation of the performances of the teams).
Day IV: breakfast; evaluation of the past days - sharing of emotions; going back home.
For safety reasons, a doctor will constantly work in the camp, who will be responsible for the health of the participants and will be able to provide first aid if needed. When the project is over the director will prepare reports and present them in written form to the donor, municipality administration and general public.
Equal gender opportunity:
equal number of girls and boys (15-15) will be selected in a flow. Also the tents will be separately for boys and girls. There will be 10 children in a camp: 5 - girls and 5 - boys.
Totally 150 young people will take part in the “Ethno-Camp”. Ethnic and gender balance will be observed.
